DOUGLAS COUNTY:  HISTORY

Douglas County Partners has been successfully mentoring kids since 2001 when a feasibility report revealed the need for services in the County.  We match kids ages 8-17 with adult, volunteer mentors.  Our kids, who voluntarily participate with the support of their families, live in Castle Rock, Larkspur, Parker, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch and Roxborough.  These youth are referred to us by their school, WrapAround, or another human service agency.  In our program, a boy or girl (Junior Partner) is matched with an adult volunteer mentor (Senior Partner). This one-on-one mentoring helps to instill positive changes and responsible choices in the youth.

Why Mentoring?  Because mentoring impacts kids’ lives with positive changes such as learning to make responsible choices, and the importance of doing well in school. Mentors listen, offer advice, and share activities. Together the child and mentor (Partnership) enjoy weekly activities such as hiking, fishing, reading, music, community events, and spending time on homework. Partners’ staff provides support to the youth and mentor, as well as, helps the kids’ families access vital community resources.
