Can you think of someone who has been a mentor in your life?

v  IIs it someone in your family?

v  IIs it someone involved in your education?

v  IIs it someone you work with?

Remember that special person as you learn more about the DOUGLAS COUNTY PARTNERS MENTORING PROGRAM.

The kids who have been referred to our program have yet to find that special person in their lives to be an advocate, who listens and shows by example how to make good decisions.  They need you to fulfill these roles for them.  It doesn’t take experience.  It takes a person who likes kids and wants to make a difference in someone’s life.  The kids just want to have fun, laugh, and learn new things.

We have many kids in our DreamCatchers Program who are waiting to be matched with a mentor.  These kids participate in monthly activities with Partners’ staff, but they really want a mentor and are anxiously waiting for you to volunteer.  Will you be a mentor to one of these kids?

Get involved by helping kids in your community today.

Program Information

Douglas County Partners has been successfully helping kids since 2001 when a feasibility report revealed the need for mentoring services in the County.  We match kids ages 8-17 with adult, volunteer mentors. Our kids, who voluntarily participate with the support of their families, live in Castle Rock, Larkspur, Parker, Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree.  They are referred by Douglas County schools, juvenile diversion, Douglas County Human Services, the Women’s Crisis Center and other human service agencies.

Mentoring relationships begin with a one-year commitment, during which the mentor, youth, and the family receive the support services available through all Partners programs.  During the first year, the youth (Junior Partner) and the mentor (Senior Partner) meet weekly to do activities together.  It’s a time to listen, offer support, show you care, become a friend, and to have fun. Even though the initial commitment is for one year, Partnerships often continue for several years as the friendship continues to grow and flourish.

“When I started as a mentor, I was clueless about today’s kids and their lifestyles. It’s been very educational and rewarding.”

“Many kids don’t get the support they need at home, for one reason or another, and mentors are a positive way "
